Here’s my report on my first track day with the Hardbar coilovers – Fantastic! As Richard feared, my beat up Hoosier R6’s corded out at the end of the 3rd session (26 heat cycles) - nothing serious, just a thin 8 inch long line on the outside of the left front. However, I was able to lower my personal best lap time by 1.2 seconds to 2:02.6 (1.2 seconds quicker) and that was with my 235 lb nephew in the passenger seat (lap record in T1 from 2004 is 1:58.2). Initial impressions – the car is a lot more stable and planted, particularly over rough pavement, turn in is more immediate and I found the active handling in comp mode to be less intrusive (easier to drive the car more smoothly). I didn’t try different shock settings because everything was working so well and I wanted to get used to the new feel. Alignment at the front is: camber -2.3, 1/16” total toe out, castor 7.8. At the rear: camber is -2.0, 1/16” total toe in. Thunderhill is predominately left hand turns, right front tire temps were (inside to outside) 152, 142, 152, left front (inside to outside) 163, 151, 139, right rear (inside to outside) 158, 158, 156 and left rear (inside to outside) 170, 149, 149. Weather was sunny and cool (high in the low 70’s).
I think this is the best money I have spent on the car to date. I’ll be back to Thunderhill on the 26th with a new set of Hoosiers. Thanks for all the help.
